What is pequi oil?

Pequi oil is extracted from the pulp of the fruit of Caryocar brasiliense, a tree native to South America, through pressing processes that preserve its lipid composition. Its profile is mainly composed of oleic and linoleic acids, essential fatty acids that provide moisturizing and emollient properties to cosmetic formulations.

Beyond its lipid fraction, pequi oil contains vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps stabilize formulations against oxidation, along with phytosterols and carotenoids. The latter are responsible for its characteristic yellow color and contribute additional antioxidant activity, making it an interesting functional ingredient in natural cosmetics.

Main cosmetic uses of pequi oil

Moisturizing creams and emulsions. Thanks to its oleic and linoleic acid content, pequi oil is used as an oil phase in body and facial creams designed to improve skin softness and hydration.

Antioxidant formulations. The presence of vitamin E and carotenoids allows this oil to be used in formulas aimed at protecting skin against oxidative stress, an attribute valued in premium cosmetic lines.

Hair care. Its lipid profile is also used in conditioners and hair masks, where it helps add shine and reduce dryness along the hair shaft.

Artisan soap making and balms. Due to its texture and stability, pequi oil is used in cold-process soap, balms and lip balms, functioning as a natural emollient within blends of vegetable oils.
