Red clay of illite or bentonite is very rich in minerals with multiple absorbent and purifying properties. Of all of them, it is worth highlighting the presence of silicon, magnesium and iron and copper oxides, from which it gets its reddish color. It has a high content of silica, one of its most remarkable properties being that of participating in the formation of collagen, the main component of the body’s connective tissues. The red clay of Illita has multiple cosmetic applications in the preparation of masks and poultices.

This mineral owes its name to the state of Illinois.
